 Dear Sir,

I’M 45 YEARS OLD MAN AND WOULD LIKE LEARN CLASSICAL SINGING , I USE TO SING, BUT NOT VERY GOOD, I CAN’T SING HIGH PITCHES WELL. CAN YOU GUIDE ME TO HOW TO PRACTICE AND HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE?

-Nizar

Nizar,

I can’t say for sure how long it will take because I’m not sure where you are. I will say this though… one of the most beneficial things you could do for yourself is find a solid teacher of classical music and take a lesson or two with them, paying close attention to what they do to warm up your voice. This could help quite a bit.

(Everyone’s voice is different, so there’s no way that I can give you advice that I know would be 100% right for your voice).

However, there are a few general ideas that are consistent, so let me give you a few pieces of advice.

1. Check out this video on breathing – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbjN28N2DQ0

2. Check out this article on singing high notes –

3. When it comes to the “ing” sound, odds are the issue you’re experiencing is you’re pulling your tongue back while you’re singing it. Release the tongue forward in the mouth while you sing it, and you’ll likely get past that problem.

I hope this helps get you started, and best of luck along your vocal journey!
